Privacy Policy

Effective July 17, 2026

Nearby does not collect, store, or share any personal data. There are no accounts, no servers, and no tracking. This page explains what that means in practice.

No data collection

Nearby has no servers and requires no account, phone number, or email address. We have no way to see who you are, who you talk to, or what you say — none of it ever reaches us.

Your messages

Messages and photos travel directly between phones over Bluetooth and peer-to-peer Wi-Fi. They are stored only on your device and the devices of the people you chat with. Deleting the app deletes your chats.

Your profile

The name and emoji you pick are stored on your device and shared only with people in range when your status is set to visible. You can go invisible at any time.

Device permissions

Nearby asks for a few iOS permissions, used solely to make the app work:

  • Bluetooth — to find people around you and keep chats reachable in the background.
  • Local network — to connect with people near you and transfer photos.
  • Camera — only when you choose to snap and send a photo.

None of these are used for tracking or location. Nearby never accesses your GPS location, contacts, or files.

No third parties

Nearby contains no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party services of any kind.

Children

Because Nearby collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children either.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, we will update this page and the effective date above.
